i’m not really sure what i read here but it very much felt like a fever dream, and im sure i have missed a lot of the messaging and allegory that others seem to have benefitted from. i will say that i can see the comparisons to the virgin suicides, and i do truly love a coming of age narrative. that nostalgia is front and present, and the real highlight of this book is its ability to immerse you in its time and setting. i’ve never stepped foot in the USA, never mind florida, but this transported me there very easily.

still trying to wrap my head around some of the metaphors / surrealism / etc. but i love books about weird girls doing weird things 💖
i promise y’all i wanted to love this so bad! there were some fantastic, observational/introspective lines but they were amongst what can only be described as nonsense pretending at profound. i can’t even like the vibes here because none of the words even feel like prose, and everything is so vague it can’t possibly be atmospheric. the slivers of plot and characterization were atrocious. i just ????
