i liked the premise, the writing and the setting, but it just seemingly falls apart towards the end. really liked how the hivemind of codependent friendship among young girls was used in the narration itself but i don't think it was explored enough.

amazing overall, the ending was a bit confusing so i am gonna need a while to digest it

What did I just read? I have never been so confused after reading something. Making me think I also didn’t like it. I am confused and will never pick this book up again. The only redeeming quality was the atmospheric writing style of the short descriptions of the locations.

3.5 stars! The writing style of this book reminds me of the way college lit majors write. It’s so jam packed full of decorative language and metaphors in attempt to be artistic, that the story gets very muddy and ambiguous. It’s really toeing the line between beautifully poetic and being nonsensical. The story is good, and it paints a picture of girlhood that is both beautiful and terribly ugly. The comparison to “The Virgin Suicides” and “The Florida Project” are incredibly accurate. Definitely a “no plot, just vibes” kind of read.
