i love the swedish movie adaptation and wanted to read the source. 

ove is not a likable character. but he IS a person who can love and does care, very much. he just happens to have developed a less lovable set of coping skills in reposes to trauma.

a delightful arc of a character who thought he was content only being known by one other person (first dad, then wife), being inundated by connection that changes, for the bettter, the remainder of his life in his small neighborhood.
