Really enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns that left me guessing, and I loved Shack the cat.

There were minor things that irked me: Why was it necessary to mention Jess’s weight/body multiple times? The self-described loner main character suddenly having three love interests at once felt off. The music references also felt out of place and forced.

Overall, I’d recommend this to other crime/thriller fans. Didn’t realize this was the second book in a series, so I’ll definitely be circling back to the first.

Oh No

I feel absolutely awful for poor Duane! This book was better than the first one in my opinion, the plot twists were perfect and I assumed the link between the victims would be pregnancy, I wasn't expecting the real reason at all! Shack is the hero we deserve in this world.

I enjoyed the second book in this series even more than I did the first! Detective Easton wasn't just solving another serial killer case but instead part of a very personal case of trying to return his sister's killer back to prison and getting answers for himself and his family. A lot more character development was able to take place and I enjoyed the revelations that came at the end. I will definitely be looking forward to the next book.

“Sometimes the only thing you need for madness is a memory burned into your eyes.”

Frost Easton and Rudy Cutter both have haunting memories. But one is a murderer and the other plays by the rules. This story is a thrilling game of cat and mouse. I thought it would bother me knowing who the killer is from the beginning, but Freeman has the gift of writing suspense and each page is as compelling as the last. Frost is chasing down his sister’s killer, grasping for clues and evidence to send him back to prison the right way. Each encounter you think you know how it will go, but things aren’t always what they seem. You don’t get the whole story until the very last page. Who are the targets and who are the players? There’s only one way to find out!

The second book in the Frost series brings up the Inspectors tragic past. His sisters killer is released due to planted evidence. Not only is he released but Frost is the one that discovered the dodgy evidence. It then becomes a race against time to find new evidence to lock him up before he kills again.

This book is a bit different because we know who the guilty party is. You get to experience the stress of trying to find new evidence and stop him killing again. We all know it's inevitable that he will kill. I kind of expected one of the murders but it still broke my heart a little bit. The ending is also pretty sad and the action keeps going until the very last chapter. I really like the main characters and I am definitely invested in their lives.

3.85/5 stars. I enjoyed this second book in the series; however, I took off star points for a bit of weakness in the plot line. Cutter’s rationale for killing his victims didn’t make sense to me. I realize you could argue that he wasn’t thinking straight, but it still wasn’t believable for me. That said, the characters and relationships are evolving nicely, and I look forward to finding out what happens to them in future instalments.
Side note - I still dislike Frost’s name and still think it makes him sound like a porn star.
