I loved this book. It felt like The Time Traveler’s Wife met 13 Going on 30 and they had a deep, emotional heart-to-heart, then jumped into a glittery time machine with no return date.

Oona Out of Order was such a ride—heartfelt, emotional, and so cleverly crafted. The time travel element wasn’t just a gimmick; it meant something. Every year, Oona wakes up in a totally different version of herself—sometimes decades ahead, sometimes still young, but always disoriented and missing key pieces of the puzzle. It was gutting in the best way. You feel the grief of the years lost, the ache of trying to make the most of a life you can’t live linearly.

But here’s what really hit: the relationships. They’re messy, flawed, sometimes painful—but also deeply human. Romantic, familial, platonic… each one brought out different layers in Oona, and I loved getting to know her across those shifting years.

And we have to talk about the music. Music was the heartbeat of this book. Even as Oona bounced around in time, music and musicians remained her anchor. It tied her back to the moments and people she’d loved—grounding her when everything else felt unfamiliar. It was a beautiful, steady thread in a life that was anything but.

This story wrestles with regret, joy, love, and what it means to live a life out of order—one choice, one leap at a time. I didn’t want it to end. I would’ve gladly followed Oona through the rest of her life, skipping through decades and soaking in all the hard-earned wisdom along the way. It’s magical realism with meaning, and I’m still thinking about it days later.

A time travel read of a different sort. I found this read intriguing and thought provoking as I followed Oona’s leaps through the years.

It was interesting to reference the different years and her various outlooks and priorities during that year.

It made me want to hold on to the small moments longer and reminded me of the joys in life often come with a trial - but every life is worth living.

This book was on a list of "books good on audio."  I have to agree.  I enjoyed the narration, which added so much to the story.
