Maya Angelou writes a million things well, but most notably her commitment to gratitude, defiance, and hope in the face of adversity stand out. It’s amazing and devastating that she did not speak for six years, and how lucky are we that she found her voice again.

from On Aging,

“When you see me walking, stumbling,
Don’t study and get it wrong.
‘Cause tired don’t mean lazy
And every goodbye ain’t gone.
I’m the same person I was back then,
A little less hair, a little less chin,
A lot less lungs and much less wind.
But ain’t I lucky I can still breathe in.”

Continuing to expand my horizons and read poetry now and then. I'm still not a big fan of poetry. Maybe one of these days someone's work will click big time and I will be a convert.

That being said, there are some powerful words in this book, and I did enjoy reading them. It helps when you get out of the "poems have to rhyme" mindset and read them as a spoken word/rhythmic thing instead.
