This is purely a Princess Bride love-fest. I love this movie, but even for me, some of the gushing over the other actors got to be a little much, sort of like award acceptance speeches or something. I did enjoy the funny stories about things that happened during production and some of the insider info on how they did the stunts and special effects. Cary Elwes is a lovely narrator, and the audio includes many of the other actors as well.
This was just delightful. I've never been a superfan of The Princess Bride myself, but I have a much deeper appreciation for the film (and a desire to rewatch it!) after listening to this memoir. Elwes' recounting of the making of the movie, supplemented generously by thoughts and stories from other cast members (most of them read by that individual on the audiobook), represents one of my favorite things: people who genuinely like each other telling the story of how much fun they had making something together. While some behind-the-scenes tales can destroy the movie magic, for me this only enhanced it; the movie itself is gently poking fun at the various genres it encompasses, and it already has the framework of a storybook tale being acted out, so hearing how it was accomplished just made it that much more impressive. I didn't realize Elwes and Patinkin had worked so incessantly for months to be able to flawlessly execute a sword fight without using stunt doubles, or that Elwes had filmed a good bit of the movie with a broken toe! Beyond the did-you-know stories, I greatly enjoyed hearing how much admiration everyone involved had for one another and how much courage and kindness contributed to the filming being a wonderful experience for (almost) everyone. (Hearing Wallace Shawn talk about his insecurities about the film, and the way he downplays his contributions even now, broke my heart!) I am looking forward to watching this movie again after having read this book. I especially recommend the audio, both because of the many voices that contributed and because Elwes himself has a talent for accents!
I’ve always loved the Princess Bride, and this is a charming memoir of the production process, especially with everyone voicing their own quotes in the audiobook.

A really interesting book about the making of and eventually cult status of the movie The Princess Bride from the point of view of Cary Elwes. It has some really interesting details about the training he went through for the sword fight and his experience as a young actor in one of his first big roles. Anyone who loves the movie should check this out.
