Quirky as heck. Almost stopped after the 1st page, but glad I didn't.

From the depths of depression, this book promised me that there is a place for the most clumsy, awkward person imaginable. I long to visit Newfoundland. Impossible to separate the beauty of this novel from the haunting visuals of the movie.

I never finished it in college. Couldn't get into it. I read it again as an adult & was able to relate to it. It took me growing as a person, & as a reader to appreciate this book.

Beautiful seems to be the only word I can conjure to describe it. It's written in a way that seems "natural" like thoughts instantly translated to paper. My main observation: the contrast between the grotesque events in the book and the lovely writing shows that even though ugly things happen, life itself is a beautiful thing. Reminded me of "The Secret of Roan Inish" just so many themes, metaphors and motifs!

4.5

story of love and loss and friendship… every single character is multidimensional, with beautiful figurative language throughout. plus it’s a journalism story!!

A lovely book. Well written characters that you can cheer for. A few you don't cheer for but they help move the story along. Loved this one!
