Whenever I read this book I'm just like dang did the ADHD/autistic girlies in 1938 feel seen.

Oh poor sweet HELLA adhd Mrs. DeWinter - it is so deeply amusing to read this book, with her being "embarrassed for them because they didn't have the sense to" and her intense rejection sensitivity disorder and all her wild conjectures and anxiety.
This is such a fantastic book in the gothic catalogue and a classic of twisty overlapping story. Its ableist and racist in places in line with shitty white moneyed people of the era.
Young wife, husband twice her age, giant estate and a malicious housekeeper. Lots of secrets. Lots of miscommunication haha

She's a page turner but she's also made me a Mrs. Danvers apologist and I refuse to change that. The narrator is whiny and she reminds me of Taylor Swift.

Great third act and plot twist. Unfortunately the book is way more Freudian than the Hitchcock film :\ 4.5 ⭐️

This is one of those rare instances where the movie that came from this book and the source material are stunning. And both have so many layers. Beautiful and rich storytelling. I know I will revisit this soon.

This book and a great feeling of suspense and anxiety. There was always that little something you didn’t know as you were reading. The Manderley ball has scenes of offensive cultural appropriation and depictions of people in Brownface, but it is contained to the scenes at the ball. However, it is something to be aware of should you pick up this book and should not be dismissed. Aside from it’s problematic party, this book works as a creepy gothic story sure to give you a few chills as you learn more about who Rebecca was.
