This book is a little more geared towards those in the dating pool as opposed to those in long-term relationships like I am, but there were still some very helpful tips I was able to learn. For starters, being open with your partner is a good thing. Maybe not to the extreme but at least enough so they can know how you feel about certain things like contact after trips or what you expect. However, it is also your own responsibility to soothe your anxiety, not theirs. I think the main thing is to realize that others will not fit the mold or follow the rules you may want them to, instead focus on yourself and how you can make yourself OK in certain circumstances. Mental health is a constant but learning how you can manage it is a choice for some. I am going to work on some of my various issues but also be more open about what I expect from my boyfriend. Especially given the current long-distance circumstances. I think this may be a book I will return to. Hopefully, I will never need certain chapters but there are also tips for rejection, break-ups, and getting back out there. I recommend for anyone who has these mental health difficulties and who want to have healthy relationships with others but also with themselves.

I wanted to read after hearing Allison on a podcast. I especially loved that this was a dating book written for an anxious person, as I felt she really “got it.” I skipped through chapters that I didn’t feel resonated, but would recommend to friends that are juggling dating and mental health.

I'm going to reason with you and say this would probably be a 4 star if
A) I hadn't already been closely following Allison for years and heard all these lovely tips before
B) I wasn't already deep into a commited long term relationship, so a lot of this advice wasn't all that applicable
This book was well structured with lots of gems of wisdom. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on sex, it felt vulnerable and insightful in the best ways. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the super chatty style some of this book was written in, but that seems to be a trend in influencer books so I can't only fault Allison on this too much. This book is definitely worth your time if you are dating and need some clarity and good advice

I have never dated anybody ever and I only have mild anxiety, but I really learned a lot through this book. It hit on points that I never thought of and gave me questions and answers I didn't even know I personally needed. While I didn't take to writing anything in a fancy new notebook, I definitely stored a lot of information in my brain that I will use later, and maybe I'll read the book again in the future to refresh my memory. Overthinking About You definitely achieves its goal of trying to help people with mental illnesses with dating and healthy relationships, but I think that even if you personally do not have a mental illness this book is still an educated and good read. It gives practical dating advice and you might date someone in the future that has anxiety, OCD, and/or depression, and I think that this book would be a helpful tool guide in how to navigate that relationship.
