What a poignant love letter to small town life. The twist at the end was from very far out of left field but hey, I spent the entire book having no clue what was going to happen, which is a feat in and of itself.

love love love love complicated characters and desires

there's so so much i can say about both decklee and darren and the way they both treat the people they care about and the things that they want

like decklee spent every second of her life fighting to be on that stage and getting her recognition, and i love how determined she was, but also the way that

she treated the people she cared about in order to stay there was insane. like telling mickinlee to get married instead of decklee getting married herself.

idk. i guess i just kind of love how selfish she is because it makes her such an interesting character.!

there is genuinely nothing more important to her than the stage and her songs.

and then darren and the way she thinks about her hometown, and the people in it. the way she looks up to decklee for leaving. i love how

kendall challenges her on what she thinks she thinks, and how she realizes that she loves it as much as she hates it. i just love how that realization still doesn't make her stay, and neither does her relationship with kendall. she knew that the best thing for herself was leaving, and she really did it.
