Dolly Parton meets The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo for this one. This was a fantastic book with lovable characters and a cute and mysterious story line. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next! Darren and Kendall went to school together and work together at their small town gas station/convenience store and they end up going on a scavenger hunt to find things out about one of Darren and her mom’s favorite singers that recently passed away. They have the chance to win a lot of money if they win. Darren and Kendall end up learning a lot about themselves and each other and the other people they’re close to along the way. The story and the end of it may just have you feeling like you were apart of this whirlwind of a summer adventure too! I’d love a soundtrack for this book! This was an audiobook for me.

Happened along this on Libby searching for something available now to listen to while I mowed, and it was a great find! The story was very captivating and so much fun, the mystery side of it all definitely made it hard to put down (I was finding any excuse to put my headphones in) -- the down sides, I wanted more Darren/Kendall banter before the adventure, the names in this book are a bit much for me, "Mickenlee"? sorry but that's not a name someone would have picked in the era this was written in my opinion, and the ending wasn't as warm and fuzzy with closure as I would have liked. -- The up sides, seriously couldn't put this down, the story was fun, it wasn't always perfect and there was a lot of character growth, fun banter, fun connections and a mystery of sorts to always keep the book moving forward! I can definitely relate to being from a small town and wanting out!

Ok so there were a lot of things I really liked about this book but both romances felt a little rushed. I think this book would’ve benefited from about 100 more pages to really develop the relationships. I think even just seeing a little more banter between Darren and Kendall before the roadtrip or more cute happy scenes between Decklee and Mickenlee would have really sold those relationships as more real to me.
