This was one of the most heart-wrenching, beautiful works of historical fiction I've ever read. The characters are deeply and thoughtfully constructed and I feel different for having experienced them.

Considering I read this in less than 24 hours, I’d say I enjoyed it.

Prepare to have your heart ripped out. Have tissues ready. You’ll need them.

Beautiful writing and story-telling. A very honest look at atrocity and what people experienced in France during WW2. I learned a great deal, looking up images and wikipedia entries as I read about real places and events. A heartbreaking story but also a triumph about mending a broken family, even when it might otherwise seem too late. Isabelle was indeed my favorite character in this book, but I began to love Vianne more and more as the story unfolded. Be prepared for some emotion.

This book was completely and totally fantastic. I think I felt every emotion possible. Most importantly, it made me cry. Kristin Hannah is so descriptively talented to make readers cry MORE THAN ONCE. I loved every element of it.
