Naasir and Andis book. Andi is a scholar and from Char’s court and helping Naasir locate Alexander. A powerful ancient who we to sleep and Lijuan is trying to kill. They are able to wake him up and Lijuan tries to kill him but Raph comes and helps. Naasir is a chimera of a child and tiger cub who was made a vamp but a melder angel. i think we could have gotten more sadness from this backstory but it was still a good explanation. They end up together and Raph is able to take power from Illuim. Theres no 11 archangels. A big war coming

Naasir hasn't been on my most anticipated list of the Seven (that goes to Venom and Illium), but after his appearance in [b:Archangel's Shadows|17409835|Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7)|Nalini Singh|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1394162943s/17409835.jpg|24252401] I was more interested in the "vampire who is not a vampire". As always Nalini Singh does great with her characters. I love watching how she brings a couple together and see how they end up getting their HEA.

I almost felt like the overall story arc (concerning the oncoming Cascade) overshadowed a lot of Naasir and Andromeda's relationship. I think the events leading up to the Cascade are getting too hard to contain (figuratively speaking) and I don't know how much longer before the actual Cascade is the main conflict in the story (as opposed to just building up).

There's no denying that Nalini Singh has built a great, complex world with beloved characters that I love to see change and grow. Based on events in this one, I'm wondering if our Bluebell will finally get his book next.

Archangel's Enigma for the most part was a disappointment. Naasir is one of my favorite characters. He’s just…cool. And we do get to find out exactly what he is which explains why he is such a cool character. Turns out Ellie’s “What are you? Some sort of vampiric tiger creature” wasn’t all that far off. The story opens 7 months into Naasir’s hunting for his mate and he’s getting pretty frustrated that she’s hiding from him. Okay so he’s actually never met her, and doesn’t know who she is or even where to find her; but in his mind clearly she must be hiding since he’s decided the time is right to find her. His quest for his mate however must get put on the back burner as Raphael has a job for him.

Lijuan that crazy Angel of Death is up to more shenanigans and now before she’s even fully regenerated from the last time that Raphael cleaned her clock, she’s decided to go after the sleeping Ancient, Alexander. Seems Alexander is prophesied to permanently clean Lijuan’s clock and she’s decided to take him out before that can happen. She may not be at full strength but she’s got more than enough mojo to annihilate a sleeping Ancient in order to continue her quest for world dominion. Raphael seeks to thwart her and so sends Nassir to escort the warrior scholar Andromeda to find Alexander’s sleeping hidey-hole and roust him.

Nassir knows Andromeda can’t be his mate because she’s sworn a vow of celibacy and his mate would never do anything so ridiculous. But Andromeda is Charismnon’s granddaughter and she swore her vow of celibacy because she was horrified by the debauched excess she witnessed in her grandfather’s court and by her own parents. She has come to believe that she is only one orgasm away from turning into the Marquis de Sade. Unfortunately for her she’s also like 2 weeks away from having a blood vow called in on her 400th birthday and having to forsake her scholarly endeavors to rejoin Charismnon’s court as Princess and sadist in training (or as victim du jour if she refuses to participate in Sexual Torture 101).

So of course Andromeda (or Andi as Naasir calls her) is SO his mate and Archangel’s Enigma both focuses and doesn’t focus on their relationship. They figure out their connection pretty quickly but there’s lots in the way; quests for sleeping Ancients, kidnappings, mythical hidden Grimoires that can negate vows of celibacy…this installment reads like a cross between Indiana Jones and The Mummy…and it is….boring (and predictable). It was a bit of a chore to stick with. I’m glad Naasir got his HEA but the best parts were the tidbits related to the overall Cascade storyline – which is getting interesting.

This was much better than I was expecting, and I'm so glad it was Naasir's story that really shined for this series. Hoping against hope that the next one is just as good.
