Милый сборник рассказов, даже не ожидала, что он будет настолько коротким и приятным. Разные истории, с совершенно разной моралью и отношением к своим и чужим поступкам. Рассказы между собой роднит похожесть на настоящий мир: пусть немного сказочности и добавляется в каждую из историй, но убери слова "принц" и "колдовство", получится жизнь людей из современного мира с их проблемами, желаниями, характерами.
Сказки - это же что-то архитепичное, собиартельные образы, не живые люди. Эту черту сказок Каннингем сохранил: герои не выглядят отдельными уникальными личностями, они собирательные образы, черты, которые присущи какому-то определенному типу людей. Не зря во многих сказках даже нет имён героев, это ещё больше усредняет их.
Книжка совершенно небольшая, за час с небольшим её можна прочесть, однако она наполнена многими интересными мыслями.

I enjoyed the cleverness of these retold fairy tales, but they didn't really touch my emotions.

You might not know these fairy tales, but you'll recognize them from the popular, glammed up versions. These stories tell the other side - or the true ending. These are the ones that you missed or were concealed from you. Written with such eloquence, these fairy tales are poetic, dark, and sardonically humourous.

The fact that this little book parasites on great original tales that have survived for ages, does not warrant the overly implicitness. Furthermore the attempts at humor are more childish than those of the originals, besides the cover stating 'fairytales for grownups'. But the most important reason I didn't like this book is the writing: the 3rd person present tense is a disastrous choice here.

I like the styles included, but the substance was just too edgy and didn't focus on what I wanted to focus on. I will not listen to the prince talk Snow White into sitting in the glass case to get him aroused for sex again.
