I loved the irreverent fairytale adaptations and their illustrations! I wish there had been more stories!
I really enjoyed this book. I love fairy tales and it was easy to recognize each one of these but it was another take on them. I especially liked the one about Snow White. It deserved to be read aloud. It was a quick read and really interesting.
This novel is filled with modern takes on classic fairy tales and was enjoyable to read. Some have different endings, some make you sympathetic for the villains, but all are creative. Overall, a fun, quick read.
Borrowed from a friend on her recommendation.
This is an interesting collection of "alternative" versions of stories. I liked the stories overall. The Beauty and the Beast version definitely made me pause.

A good, quick read of interesting modern takes on fairy tales. The illustrations are gorgeous.
Fairy tales re-interpreted but facts held the same. The latter was quite important for me, and this book reminded me of details I had forgotten (I didn't even think I knew, to be honest) in fairy tales - such as how there was actually a second wolf who intercepted Red Riding Hood, how Rumpelstiltskin danced singing around the fire, and the fairy tale about the sister who weaved coats of nettle for her eleven brothers. I think my favourite story was the Beauty and the Beast - what a twist!
More of a 3.5 stars.

A fairy entertaining collection of short stories which presents a twist on familiar fairy tales such as hansel and gretal, jack and the beanstalk and beauty and the beast.
Interesting, modern take on classic fairy tales. I was pleasantly surprised. If you like audio books and Lili Taylor, who reads half of the stories, I recommend the audio version.
This book was a recommendation from Levar Burton's podcast "Levar Burton Reads". I picked it up because it was an interesting retelling of fairytales from a modern perspective. I felt like the quality of the stories were about 50/50 good and bad. Some of the best stories were those about Rumpelstiltskin (the story read on Levar's podcast) and a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. There were some weird ones such as a story about a man with a prosthetic that I am still struggling to find the connection with fantasy, there is also a story about a Monkey's paw which is equally dark and grotesque.
Overall I feel like three stars is fair since it felt like the good and bad were pretty much equal in the novel. I don't know if I'd recommend the whole book. I'd much more likely recommend it only to read those great entries individually.
