This was an interesting collection. Most of these stories are set in California, following third generation (sansei) Japanese Americans and the final seven stories are all retellings of Jane Austen's main works. There's a wide range of styles in the first section, not all of which were my thing but I especially enjoyed the retellings in the second half. They're tongue in cheek but effective and capture the essence of the original works while also being interesting stories in their own right.
