3.5 because the ending was unexpected.

Not only a great start to a new series but also could be read as stand-alone. There is a clear ending to this book that leaves you satisfied! The story isn't a new concept, but it is really well done and still has a few twists and unexpected events that keep you from guessing the outcome. It is really well written, with characters that you love and support. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated really well. The narrator pulls off some great accents to give a lot of life to the characters.

it's a little formulaic, but not too. enjoyable. not as good as The First Law but fun.

Predictable, but fun nonetheless.

Dayum!!!! The levels of treachery woven into this story will make your head spin and your heart ache. On one hand, I hate that it took me so long to read it. On the other, the trilogy is finished, so I can binge read it. Yay!!

I liked this book a lot, but because it's YA, expect Joe Abercrombie lite. The ending was good with a wicked twist. The characters are well drawn and the premise is fun. I liked the hero's journey and felt it would be a fun read for a high schooler.
