good cadence, strong world-building, but just a lot of telling not showing
I read this book once a year and every time it hits even more so than it did the first time. A perfect story of adventure, horror and, most of all, love. And what more could you ask for?
This was awesome, the world and history and intrigue is fascinating and I can’t wait to finish the trilogy. Minus one star for Vin being the only non-male main character

I hadn't enjoyed a fantasy book so much in a very long time.
I had been starting to diverge a bit from male fantasy writers, since I truly disliked how they wrote or portrayed women and stories in such a crude way. Brandon however managed to write a great fantasy book, introducing a new type of magic in such detail but never making it overly extensive and boring, and with a female lead depicted in a realistic and honest way.
I will happily be reading the rest of the series.
