I remembered the plot for this one from watching it, but I loved reading it. The whole memories coming back plot line is really fascinating, and I really loved miss marples role in this one - I think she’s often at her best when she’s helping out some young couple. The plot was fun and the characters were interesting - especially all the potential murderers
This novel, the last Christie ever published, is Christie at her best. I remembered whodunnit from the last time I read this (probably in the mid-70s when it was published), so I was able to attend to what Christie was doing to build the mystery and the solution, and she was at the top of her game: when she give the dead giveaway (pun intended), she does it in such a way that almost everyone will naturally mistake her meaning, though if you look at it the right way, it's all very simple. She was a master of understanding how readers' minds work and using that against them! A reviewer of Postern of Fate, the last book Christie actually wrote (she wrote Curtain and this one in the 1940s and had them--literally, as I understand it--stored in a vault for publication after her death) suggested that had she not had her last Poirot and Marple cases in reserve, her reputation would not have survived the books she actually wrote last. I think he might have a valid point; Postern of Fate was absolutely dreadful; not even the plot hangs together. These, written at the height of her powers, are among the very best she ever wrote. She had good sense to have them ready as a legacy.
Spoiler
I do wonder, after reading this again, whether Christie had it in for doctors! Think how many times a doctor was the murderer!
