Always a good idea to read a Mary Higgins Clark book. She may stick carefully to her formula, but it's a killer formula. Besides, if I need a quick read that is guaranteed safe reading, she is who I go to.

Very predictable till she threw in a quick surprise ending. Still a fast entertaining read.

Regardless of all the nay Sayers, I very much enjoyed this book, as well as other MHC books. I think she write stories that haven't been done by all authors in the suspense thriller genre, and for that alone I very much admire her books. It is easy to find a book about a murder and the investigation that ensues. She does that kind of work, but with such a twisted plot that I enjoy it immensely. Even if I do guess the villain, I continue reading. But then I am the type who will re-read my books 4 or more times simply because I enjoy it. I don't understand why people can't just read a book for fun, everything has to be over criticized, it can't just be enjoyed as a break from reality.

This is my first book by this author and quite enjoyed it. For the first time ever I was able to guess who the bad guy was in the story, largely due to the fact that the possible fall guy was too convenient.

Some characters were interesting and the story flowed well. The who-done-it was pretty predictable though, and several characters’ thoughts and actions were unrealistic, especially those of the police. The motivation of the antagonist, and why there was a two-year wait, was never clear. And there’s no way you hold a child captive for that long, that easily. The overwhelming lack of logic here drops the book to a 2 rating. 2.0

I loved MHC's books in middle school but haven't read them since. The plot kept me reading. The writing made me sad. So many giant chunks of information disguised as interior monologue.
