When just starting Crime and Punishment, I thought it'd be like all those other classical pieces of literature: confusing and boring as hell. However, the writing and dialogue struck me as understandable and interesting to an idiot like me! Although, the reading doesn't really give anything to the imagination, most of the time giving the answer to any not explained detail. Just give me a sense of, "hey, I think I understand why that happened!"
While saying that, all the characters are fleshed out and unique in their own special way (especially the main character; his motives are fleshed out pretty well!), the plot has good pacing and knows when it should speed up or take its time, and the conclusion leaves a positive mark when reading the last few paragraphs.
Final consensus: well written, doesn't leave much to the imagination.

Raskolnikov is a complex character and a well-written protagonist. His head is all messed up and his thoughts are jumbled. An intellectual man with a dual side of personality. He's capable killing someone but he's able to show compassion and love. He struggle to keep up with his own belief but at some point his guilt eat him alive. We are invited to swim through his dark, deepest thought and feel absorbed with it. In the end, he shows remorse and take his journey to redemption. We are all "Raskolnikov", sometimes we justify our own action although we know exactly that we're at fault.
I'm not going to write a long review (or maybe I'm going to add some later on) for this book, I think everyone has to read this masterpiece.
