This book was frustrating, sad, fast paced (did I say frustrating?) and just so so good.

Really solid read.

I just finished Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby, and I gave it a 4.25/5 stars. It’s definitely thrilling, but I don’t think it lived up to the level of intensity that some people made it out to have. Don’t get me wrong—there’s a lot to enjoy here, but there were moments when the writing felt a little too forced and sometimes even cliché. That said, the plot itself had me hooked.

The story revolves around two fathers—one Black and one white—who team up to find out who murdered their sons, a gay couple. It’s gritty, emotional, and packed with action. The premise alone had me intrigued, and Cosby does a great job of creating a strong sense of urgency and tension throughout the book. The relationship between the two fathers is one of the highlights for me. Watching them navigate their grief and growing understanding of each other was a powerful element that gave the book more depth.

That being said, there were moments when the writing felt a bit too on the nose, almost like it was trying too hard to hit certain emotional beats or deliver that tough-guy dialogue. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it did take me out of the story sometimes. I was expecting more of a subtle, nuanced approach to the characters and their relationships, but instead, there were some lines and plot points that felt a little too familiar or contrived.

But, even with that, the plot itself was enough to keep me invested. The twists and turns were well executed, and I appreciated how Cosby explored themes like redemption, justice, and the complexities of masculinity. The action scenes were gripping, and the suspense definitely kept me turning the pages. I’d say the book didn’t always hit the highs I was hoping for, but it still gave me a satisfying reading experience overall.

So, while I wouldn’t say it’s the most thrilling book I’ve ever read, Razorblade Tears is still a solid crime thriller with strong emotional stakes and a compelling, fast-paced plot. It’s definitely worth picking up if you’re a fan of gritty, high-stakes thrillers, but just know that it might not be as groundbreaking as some of the hype suggests.

It took me two tries to get into the audiobook, and at first it was because the who's who was confusing me (reader error).

It's a beautiful story of what one will do to avenge the death of a loved one who was seen as a abomination in the South.

Casting: Terrence Howard as Ike and Robert Knepper as Bobby Lee
