I do not have the words to explain this story. This is truly a story of trauma and strength, horrors and winning small victories. I had no idea what this story was when I initially picked up the novella but I did not expect this. Absolutely stunning, heartbreaking, and riveting. This tells the story of an indigenous woman and her youth filled with abuse and continuous trauma, yet even in her darkest hours she always held on. This felt like I was watching someone come to terms with their life and heal from it. Absolutely brilliant, please read this.

I loved how unique this was, especially the audio. There was poetry, short stories, throat singing all to encompass a life so imnersively and artistically. It was beautiful and magical. Though I felt rushed finishing this because I was borrowing it from the library and couldn't renew, and I honestly think this book is meant to be read slowly definitely not something to be rushed.

A must listen on audiobook for the author's throat singing

"Money won't save you even if you save it.
Money has spent us as we have spent it.
We look upon the scared earth with pity. What have we done to her? Isn't it she who [...] gave us life only to suck us back in, just so she can breathe with the seasons? Just so we can be her top soil?"

Haunting.
Split Tooth is incredibly rich with images, symbols and Indigenous wisdom.
The author doesn't read the book, she performs it with her whole body. Truly unique.
Reminded me of Emezi's Freshwater in many ways.
