Easy YA read, elegance of plot, detail and characters as well as Easter eggs from past books.
I really, absolutely LOVED Sarah Dessen’s books in my early to mid teens, and this was a fun book mostly for that reason. Though I didn’t enjoy it as much as her early novels, I’m not sure if it was objectively not as good or just a result of my being out of the target age range and noticing the overwhelming plot similarities between almost every book (?). I don’t relate to Louna nearly as much as I did with other protagonists either, but again I think this may be due to my own age. Reading this has got me wanting to reread some of my faves by her in the near future also (most notably ‘The Truth About Forever’ and ‘Someone Like You’, but also possibly revisiting ‘Dreamland’ or ‘This Lullaby’).

Description: This book follows 17-year old Louna the summer before college. She is working at her mom’s wedding planning business, Natalie Barrett Weddings. While planning a particular wedding, Louna meets Ambrose who eventually starts working for Natalie Barrett Weddings as well. Ambrose is confident, loud, has a short attention span, and says what he’s thinking, but he’s also, kind. Louna and him argue, then become friends, and maybe more? But Louna has already had her epic love, and doesn’t think she’s supposed to have another. Ambrose may just change her mind.
Thoughts: This is a cute read. Learning about Louna’s epic love in flashbacks makes you feel all of the emotions she did. The butterflies, the recklessness, first love. It is also, equally heartbreaking when we learn how/why this relationship ends prematurely.
In between the flashbacks, we see present-day Louna navigating life; dating, with cringeworthy results; and learning to overcome her grief and move on.
I like Louna’s growth throughout the book. She starts out heartbroken, and cynical, but finally starts to hope again by the end of the book. She makes a big move at the end that symbolizes her first step towards finally healing.
One thing I would have liked to see more of is the romance between Louna and her current love interest. I didn’t feel that the characters got enough romantic moments. With more pages added, I feel like we could have gotten a stronger connection between the two.
Overall, this was a good read, that definitely had me feeling all of the emotions. It’s not Dessen’s best, but is still a great book she has in her arsenal.

Not my favourite book by Sarah Dessen, whilst I enjoyed the entertainment of the wedding planner business and Ambrose's quirky personality, I didn't really feel any of the "chemistry" that the rest of the characters were apparently able to see. I felt that a lot of the little story plots (e.g. dating game) didn't really add much to the story. I didn't see as much character development as I have come to expect from Sarah Dessen's novels, but overall was a nice light read with a happy ending.
3.5 maybe a little bit more
not the best I've read from her, but i have a thing for guys like ambrose: easygoing, cheerfully lighthearted and a softie so i couldnt resist his charms.
i was expecting more from the story tho, the ending/ambrose's confession or how it came about was lacking for me.
I loved the side characters tho.

I honestly didn't think I would read this book? But then I got the urge to read something cute and summery and I couldn't resist this arc! The last time I read Sarah Dessen I was in high school, but I still really enjoyed this!! I loved the wedding aspect of this book (even though I never really appreciated weddings) and I think it was a really interesting how intense this book got. I read this book less to be critical and more to just have fun. And it was definitely fun!
Louna is the daughter of a wedding planner, often helping brides to be have their perfect wedding.
Cynical towards the idea of love after her first relationship ended badly, she meets someone new.
Will this be a new chance at love and will Louna let him in?
This was a romance novel that had a lot of potential in my opinion, but fell flat.
