“‘Eat,’ the tiger said graciously. ‘It’s hardly our custom to starve people telling us stories.’”
adventurous mysterious reflective fast-paced

Together, they ran all the way back to the Boarback Mountains, and for the rest of their nights together, Ho Thi Thao would eat every meal from her wife’s fingers and kiss the scar on her hand before she went on to kiss the rest of her as well. They lived well-fed until they were only bones, and even their bones were happy, turning white and sharp as teeth in the moonlight.

I like this a lot more than The Empress of Salt and Fortune, the story is one I could connect with more and I liked the characters more. I do really like that we get to hear these stories through Chih to get even more layers to the characters.

Another stunner in the series. These are so lovely. Can't wait for the next one!

I loved the somehow two-sided storytelling and I also loved going back and learning about a new story in the company of Chih.

Technically and structurally sound with a lot of elements I enjoy - myths! storytelling! mammoths! tigers! lesbians! - but ultimately just left me cold. I really wish I enjoyed these novellas more
