This story is set in the same world as the Singing Hills so you already know the setting and lay of the land but could be red as a stand-alone story. 

 

Its fast paced, feels like a story within a story because of how it is set up and builds forth one mythical landscape of book one. 

 

It’s a story about how things are not always what they seem, how the hart has wisdom the mind lacks, love and regret and furious sibling tigers.

Cleric Chih finds themself in a dangerous predicament and must tell a story good enough to save their life (with some corrections along the way). I found myself drawn in by the interruptions to Chih's usually flawless accounts and enjoyed the narrative twists and turns from the tigress sisters. Although the denouement felt a bit rushed and left me with more questions than answers, I enjoyed this queer love story. A unique blend of folktale, historical account, poetry, and late night yarn spinning.

I love this series so far because it won't get boring. Due to the fact that the overarching plot isn't the main thing going on in each book, it feels fresh every time. (ALSO ITS SPELT CHIH APPARENTLY)
