Loved the tone of this. If you enjoy Gosford Park, Downton Abbey, others of that style, you will enjoy this book.

Easy and delightful read. A fun take on the rich and the calculated steps taken to stay relevant and known in society.

Other Goodreads reviewers have compared Julian Fellowes to Trollope, Austen, Waugh and Wharton. I can't disagree, though the author that most often came to mind while I was reading Snobs was P.G. Wodehouse. Put Edith Lavery in a cloche hat and woolen stockings and she could double for one of Wodehouse's resolute middle class girls determined to hang on to her very own upper class twit despite the meddling of the groom's Aunt Agatha and Aunt Dahlia or, in this case, Lady Uckfield.

good modern story about a Brit woman who marries for wealth and power; some very funny scenes, but also some excellent insight into human nature

Meh. It was amusing at first but got tedious very quickly and none of the characters were very likable. I gave up halfway through.

Modern, humorous Brideshead Revisited (that's pretty high praise in my world).

By the writer of Downton Abbey but set in 1990's. Clever storyline but not exciting enough.
