I liked a lot about this book. Some of the Norse language and bits in here made things a little hard to follow, but I was engaged throughout.

Northern Wrath, the first novel of the Hanged God trilogy, is a great start to a Viking inspired fantasy series. Centering on the warriors of Ash-hill as well as several other characters, and featuring fantastic Norse beings from gods to dwarves to Jotnar, the author weaves a complex tapestry through shifting POV chapters. While this was occasionally confusing and made the story seem a bit slow to start, once it got going I was hooked. I really enjoyed getting an insight, however accurate or imaginative it may be, into both the culture and the psychology of the Norse of Northern Wrath. In many ways this book is about clash: the conflict between religions, political systems, peoples, and even worlds. A theme that feels all too timely whenever I watch the news. The Hanged God trilogy is not only a fun book, but perhaps also a good reminder to look to history and the challenges of the past as we consider the present. I plan to directly begin the sequel and would recommend this one to fantasy readers and history buffs.
