It has been years since I read a short story collection, and I had forgotten how good they can be.
I thoroughly enjoyed these and give it a strong 4-stars overall. The stories were rich and magical, though not especially scary, and I loved 'Doc Buzzard's Coffin' and 'The Choking Kind' the most (I would love to read a novel built on either story).

Addictively Dark!

Royce has a great knack for writing horror stories, and to put them all in one collective book is just genius. This collection brings the magnificence of dark magical paranormal into the delicacy of horror. Horror needs to be written in a way that is not hokey or just for the sake of gore, and Royce has done an exemplary job with this book. It's had to pick one story in this collection as my favorite, but once I read "The Choking Kind", I was able to decide, at least for right now, that this was my favorite. How did I pick my favorite? I read it multiple times, just because I had to and I didn't want it to end. "Skin, skin, skinny ... do you know me?"

I liked to loved a lot of these stories. Very good overall. I've read about half and then I'll read the remaining stories as I get in the mood for eerie/ spooky or horror stories. Definitely recommended. Do not let my DNF be indicative of a lack of quality. Definitely not the case. Would so far rate the collection as 3 stars overall and that's a solid "I like this."
