I bought it on sale from audible.

The main character was a bit too flawed for an easy listen, as one can guess from the publisher's synopsis, the main character spends much of the book trying to figure out who has framed him for a murder(s). It was a bit too much angst for an easy listen to me, with infidelity, chronic illness and sociopaths. Probably will not continue on with this series.

This book took me a week to get though which is a little slow for me. It turned out to be a great well thought out book by the author with how it all came together. Felt at times it dragged out a little where it could have got to point. Once it came together it the book had me hooked to how it was going to end. Not quiet your 5 star book, but a solid 4.

Very well written fast paced thriller. Police turn to psychologist Joe O'Loughlin for help in solving the murder of Catherine McBride. Joe suspects his patient, Bobby Moran, but can't breach his code of professional practice to let the police know. When the police confront Joe with more questions he realises he has not been 100% open with them. When they investigate Moran, they find that the story he has told Joe is fiction. At this point I began wondering whether Joe himself was the killer and had constructed a web of half truths to fool us readers. I won't spoil the story but I will say that Joe is now the prime suspect and he has to try to figure out why someone would frame him before he can figure out who it is.

I think I'm going to have to pull the pin here.

I really enjoyed The Secrets She Keeps, and I kept seeing a lot of references to this series once Robotham was on my radar. But now I'm picking through the rest of the books in this series and they're kind of lukewarm. That, and geez...there are a lot of really odd references he does in the narrative that make little to no sense.
Particularly a couple of chapters ago where he was describing a character and out of nowhere he describes a bar that was created for "Oddballs" for a paragraph, then back to the character again. Now that I type this, you can see how the oblique reference might work but in context it was clunky at best.

There are other little bits that seemed to be minor gaps, like at one point he talks about being able to keep his disease secret and it's not quite clear if his wife knows at that point or not. About 30 pages later it was clear but it made me have to go back and decide that it was just careless editing. Maybe.
Maybe it's just me.

Anyways, a long winded way of saying I'm not that excited or vested in this anymore. Since I don't see much for me in the rest of the series I think I'll move on at this point.
