Don't judge a book by it's cover, or title, in this case. I loved the cover of the book and the font on it.

The good things about this book was the writing style of the author. I loved how the sarcasm balanced the dark side of the book. Although, there are things I wish could have been different in the book.

1) The multiple elements: We were introduced to too many species and supernaturals at the same time, which made it harder to get attached to most of them. The elements could have been used in sequels rather than being dumped in the same book.

2) The antagonist: Douglas could have been a better antagonist if developed properly. I feel as if, for someone who is supposedly one of the strongest Necromancers, he died pretty easily. I was half-expecting him to take the knife out of his neck and flick it away

Serious thought went into giving this five stars - but though it was fairly unputdownable it had a few substantial flaws (though obviously nothing deal-breaking)... so I just couldn't do it. All the same, time well spent. Really good characters and some interesting ideas - some I'd like to see more of. So I'll have to see about getting the next in the series...

A solid 3 stars. I liked the voice, the writing was funny, likeable characters. I wanted to enjoy it more, but I have this issue now where every book has to have werewolves and I'm just sort of werefatigued. I also felt like there was a lot of 90s nostalgia, like the author and me both went to high school in the same place and era, and it shone through making the characters more like 30 something hipsters than teens/young twenties. This one leans towards adult as the main character is out of high school.
