When a local girl falls prey to a sadistic serial killer, Nashville homicide lieutenant Taylor Jackson and her lover, FBI profiler Dr. John Baldwin, find themselves in a joint investigation pursuing the vicious “Southern Strangler”.

Where to start, well the book is FULL of cliche stereotypes. It’s pretty much a checklist of a bad detective TV show.

The writing is full of victim shaming, there’s the rape victim who one of the cops refers to as “having her panties in a twist”. Then the FBI agent states that another victim is likely “overreacting”.

At one point the main female cop is patted on the bum by a male cop who reports directly to her?! I actually had to stop reading and check this was written by a woman.

Then the two main cases in the story make ZERO sense. The serial rapist who seemed to be extremely organised, struck in a pattern etc turns out to be some kid who said it was random?! Which basically closes that story line.

Then the main serial killer’s motive is just nonsense. Serial killers don’t operate like that.

Ridiculous book, simply awful. Wouldn’t be reading any more by this author.

I really enjoyed this start to the Taylor Jackson series. The characters are complex and even though I don't normally read serial killer stories, the mystery was intriguing. Baldwin and Taylor have great chemistry and work well together. I'm curious to see where the series goes and if the two of them will continue working together.

I really enjoyed this book.I love reading mysteries where I think I know who the killer is and I have the whole scenario played out in my mind but then I get proven wrong and these twist come out of nowhere leaving me gasping out loud at my job lol. I've read many mysteries where a female is a cop and etc but I really enjoyed this and I really like Taylor Jackson.
