 An enchantingly executed fever dream of a book!

Jules and Casper are two trans men who develop a connection, are gay, do crime. Jules has to grapple with his personal demons (quite literally) as well as with some thoughts regarding his identity.

I liked that the identity struggle and dysphoria weren’t a central theme here. Sure, I found the eternal questions of “am I really trans or just traumatised by womanhood” and “what is even my relationship to my body” relatable, but I’m so happy they were just passing thoughts, whereas the plot hinged more on the characters’ adventures.

The universe, at the same time Medieval and modern, is gorgeous. It’s magical and filled with sparkling lights and stained glass… and sometimes also blood and all-consuming fire.

In a world where we all could do with more authentic and fun transmasc representation, this graphic novel is a real gem.

I bookmarked the original promo art for this book waaaay back in June ‘22 (https://x.com/dirtcup_art/status/1542369746598985730?s=46&t=EoU5E5aUl45m0hsY-IvwHA) because I saw it and thought “oh sick.” 
I was SEVERELY not disappointed. HA’s author bio (campy, queer, surreal, interested in the mundane and fantasy) are spot on for what you get. I thought this was very funny, and it packs a huge emotional punch too.
