I gasped when I got to the twist. Kubica keeps me coming back for more because just when I think I’ve figured it out, I find out just how wrong I am. Another great thriller from this great author.

I had zero expectations going into this book so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I ended up liking it.

The pacing was on the slower side than I normally prefer, maybe medium-paced, and as with thrillers, required a good amount of buildup and context establishment before all the excitement starts. During this part, I thought it was interesting enough that I kept on reading (some people might have given up), but I did think it was borderline draggy.

But the author had this talent of writing in a way that is not only very detailed and clear, it also evokes suspense and at times, jump scares the hell out of you – so that was fun and really kept me turning the pages quickly. And once all the revelations kicked in, the story got even more exciting.

I think some might find the story confusing because there seemed to be too many things going on at once (the divorce, the patient, the rapist, etc) but by the end of the book, everything was mostly explained and concluded nicely, save for a few lingering questions I had.

This book reminded me of why I love thrillers so much. Definitely might consider reading it.

TW: Suicide, talk of suicide, mental illness, DV, cheating-ish, talk of SA, murder

What was that?! I read this one because it was a read-along for a book club back in July and my Libby hold just came up. I am floored that so many people love this book.

I understand redirecting our attention everywhere, but when those diversions cause plot holes!! There was just so much filler. I want to be guessing as I read, not confused.

What kind of mother is she!? There is a serial rapist, in the city, and even worse her neighborhood, and is leaving her 16-year-old daughter home alone OFTEN with a broken door? Multiable times the door wasn't even properly closed when she got home!!! What's with the daughter being oblivious to all the dangers going on around her? Being 16 doesn't explain that, I have been 16 and raised 4 kids who were all 16 once. She, like her mother, doesn't;t seem to have a self-preservation bone in their body, or common sense... until...

I really liked this book because I was always kept guessing on what was happening. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the ending left me with more questions, and didn’t wrap up the mystery, which I hate!!!! I know it’s supposed to leave you hanging on purpose but UGH!!!
