I really enjoyed this book. My fav parts were the magical elements and secret societies. I can understand why people said too much was going. Looking forward to the next book. The ending left room for a series!

I can take a little bit of suspension of belief in a book, but this one had so many confusing and contradictory bits of information, and completely unrealistic details. When I got to the bit on AI and VR taking over the world, I paused and read some other reviews. It didn’t sound like it was going to be my kind of book, but I tried to proceed. But then, this supposed historian keeps TOUCHING EVERYTHING FOR NO REASON. No, no, no, you don’t randomly touch historic wood with your bare hands- any history student let alone professional who supposedly has worked in museums would know that. And reading about someone trying to clove puzzles and clues is not that interesting for me it turns out. Not my thing, I decided it wasn’t worth it for me to push through this one.
2.5
I really wanted to like this book but I felt like it had too much going on and was trying too hard to fit in too many themes and ideas and it got a bit much.

I'm giving this book 4 stars because it ended as a 4 star book, but at times, it was a 3 star book instead. If you like fantastical adventure stories and books that tap into African royalty stories, you will enjoy this book. You just have to overlook the discordant notes that occasionally occur.

I'm giving this a 2.5.
It's fast paced and there is lots going on plot wise that I struggled to keep up with the twists, turns and history. I didn't really form any interest in the characters and often got confused about who was who, maybe this just wasn't for me.
National Treasure meets matrix with vibes of Ready Player One sprinkled with witches, lost family and time travel.....yeah confused 🤣
