The conclusion of Midoriya’s fight with Gentle Criminal (a really creepy guy). It concludes in a way that honestly confused me. What was the purpose of it?

There’s some parallel made between Gentle trying to see La Brava smile (and no way you spin that, it reads really creepy) and Midoriya trying to see Eri smile. The difference being that Midoriya cared about Eri because she suffered a traumatic event and he didn’t think he really saved her until he could be sure she’d be able to feel joy again. Wholesome and sweet.

La Brava is a girl that truly just needed therapy. For some reason, getting rejected by one boy in middle school left her despondent and suicidal. That’s... so freaking weird and not a good story for anyone, especially a female character. She then gets unhealthily attached to a grown man who’s trying to seek glory any way that he can after failing out of hero school. La Brava’s only power helps him - which I feel was a (maybe unintentional?) metaphor for how a little girl’s praise helped Gentle feel better about himself. I mean... yikes. Maybe it’d be a tad less creepy if he was actually her father? This just reads like a story you hear about on To Catch a Predator...

Anyway, I enjoyed the festival. That was cute. I liked Hawks’ introduction and it ends on a cliffhanger.

We see the end of Gentle Criminal and Midoriya's fight, Class 1-A's dance/concert for the school festival and the new ranking of the heroes since the retirement of All Might. We also see a brand new type of enemy show up and take up a fight against the new number 1 hero, Endeavor.

Ugh! Another bridge entry. By this I mean that this felt like it was just biding its time between the previous story arc and the new one. This continued with the U.A. School Festival of which I have zero interest, Gentle Criminal/La Brava which I like and then ended well which redeemed itself.

The artwork as always is excellent and I really liked how certain scenes were drawn either showing a new side to a character's face by the way it was drawn or immense detail in action scene which must have taken ages to do. So hats off for that.

The U.A. Festival is good for the school, fine but it was really boring for me. Eri being there did absolutely nothing so why go through the whole storyline of making sure she was okay with...*checks notes*...loud noises and sparkling lights? Just didn't see the point.

Gentle/La Brava got pulled off to a side tangent but we don't know where yet so I am hoping that this gets picked up in Vol 21 or 22. I feel like they could easily make an appearance in the Vigilantes spin-off series of manga (which I will be reading as soon as I finish these) which would be kind of cool since Gentle has an excellent quirk.

Finally, the ending is what saved this volume for me. We have the hero billboard chart which has changed lots since All Might is no longer able to work as a hero and then Endeavour and Hawks fighting a new, more stronger Nomu. The way this volume ends is also excellent. Endeavour is the new #1 hero but he's left almost dead after fighting the Nomu so the next volume should open up with more action, which I can't wait for.

I'm hoping we get to see more of the League of Villains now Nomu is back in the picture but we'll see!

Deku's entire goal in this volume is to make the school festival a success—particularly, his class's concert. He wants it to be a success for the class, and he wants Eri to see it and have a good time.
And then he runs across this viral video villain who wants to cause chaos for the fun of it. I was actually surprised by these characters, their relationship and the depth put into them. It was an interesting side story to note.
I love the dynamic with Eri so, so very much. Deku and Mirio are like older brothers to her—or possibly like dads. I love it so much, and it makes me so happy to see them with her, and to see her out and exploring and learning things. It just warms my heart.
In the second half of the volume, we see an adult villain fight, with a very big surprise for Todoroki. I wasn't expecting this, and the missed potential in that relationship makes me sad for him.
This series has gotten quite intense at this point. I'm definitely hooked into the series at this point.

A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!

eri is the single softest baby. gentle and la brava's relationship however makes me uncomfy cause she looks like a child. also getting more premium todoroki content so hell yeah to that.

the first part was quite boring,
Spoilerdeku wins again - who's surprised? i'm not -
and then there's the festival which i didn't care about. towards the end it gets better even if the battle was confusing to follow.
