[3.5 rounded up]. This is an interesting novella that takes some stylistic risks and explores autonomy, female friendships and self-exploration in an intriguing way. The storytelling is largely in fragmented vignettes, but still feels cohesive and linear enough to be enjoyable. The discussions around writing and art (and their intersection) felt really immersive and dreamy - it really pulled me in despite the short page count. Our narrator is numb and detached to her own life, and it definitely shows in the writing.

The writing in this and themes are very comparable to Study for Obedience by Sarah Bernstein. While it’s not anything revolutionary, for a short stream-of-consciousness story it’s quite well done and has several quotes I quite enjoyed! The ending was satisfying and conclusive after a bit of a hazy and slow journey to get there.
