my favourite so far. the plot intriguing, the steam immaculate, so funny, with some truly iconic moments.

It seems that with each of these books, several things happen:
1. The lows are lower
2. The “fanfiction-esque” moments are fanfictioner
3. The amount of time between those moments goes down.

So with this book, I was devastated and delighted constantly, and the WHIPLASH between the two states was CRAZY. There are times where literally on the same page I go from reading the most heartwrenching, devastating passage and a sentence later BOOM- middle of scene straight from ao3. I loved every second, 10/10. Though, I am afraid for my life what will happen in book 5.

Creo que es hora de aceptar que no voy a continuar esta saga y seguir con mi vida. Fue divertido, y es una pena dejarlo cuando parece que el romance entre los protas empieza a surgir, pero es que esta saga tiene temas que necesitan un aviso de contenido desesperadamente, tratados un poco para dar dramita y no con la delicadeza que yo creo que merecen, y yo no leo para deteriorar mi salud mental, así que aquí me bajo.

This volume has a lot of turmoil and some big reveals.  It kind of feels a bit like monster/ghost of the week, intended with tragic backstories and convoluted backstabbing plots.

There's still some wholesome moments between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng but I wouldn't say no to more.
