This was my first Candice Fox and my first time listening to a thriller as an audiobook. I immensely enjoyed both experiences and will be repeating them in the future.

Its taken a week but this one is all the yes for me. A prison full of escapees, a race for justice and a warden who just may be crackable, I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book. The focus is on two characters. John Kradle was convicted of murdering his family and sentenced to death so, when he is inadvertently released from prison along with 600 other inmates, he sets out to prove his innocence. Celine was the warden on death row and, for personal reasons, decides that Kradle is the most critical escapee so decides to hunt him down. Between these two characters, we occasionally get a glimpse into the other escapees and their plans for their freedom.

You have to suspend a bit of disbelief, particularly around a prison warden setting off to hunt escaped inmates, but it is otherwise a great read, full of action and intrigue. It's not the most original story (I spent the whole book thinking "I should watch The Fugitive again, I loved that movie" but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

My favourite of Candice Fox’s novels so far. Set in the Nevada Desert, over 600 criminals escape from a correctional facility starting a massive man hunt.

Candice Fox has given us a mystery thriller that reads like an action movie. The Chase starts out with a scene that takes our breath away and an impossible choice Release all the prisoners or the bus load of family members die. When death row supervisor, Celine Osbourne is faced with everyone on her team that goes against her order, she is on a manhunt to get the most vile of inmates back behind bars. One prisoner, John Kradle, is on a mission to prove that he was wrongfully accused and an innocent man. The characters are interesting but at times hard to keep up with as there are several POV happening through out the story. Another thrilling crime drama! Recommend!

I received a complimentary copy of this book by Candice Fox from Macmillan-Tor/Forge, Forge Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

The premise is a bit absurd – a bad guy somehow engineers to have the prison gates open so that inmates on death row and most violent offenders are released. And one of them has a plan and is heading to his home town because he wants to solve the murders of his family members because he did not kill them. But hot on his trail is one of the prison guards who sees it as her mission to find him and get him back into prison.

I found it ridiculous. Lots of bad guys trying to do bad things to people. Some more people dying. I skimmed through it, not really wanting to spend time with any of the characters.

It was disappointing because Candice Fox has written some really good mysteries, like Crimson Lake and Redemption Point. Perhaps her time spent co-writing mysteries with James Patterson has impacted her writing style so that now she is less about good character development and in depth stories and more about jumping from one thrill to the next.

This is a very silly premise, but it was fun to listen to.

Something tells me I would have possibly liked this better if I had not done the audio version. First it took what, 12 hours for a simple mystery book?! The voice was pretty irritating and just drained you. There is so much that is far fetched about the story it’s not even funny. It really ended up being one of those things that I just wanted to finish to see if the ending got any better.
