My favorite book of all time. This is the 4th time I’ve read it and I still love it so much and pick up new things every reread.

A time travel thriller, with romance and historical fiction. What’s not to love? It’s got so much heart, but also it’s just so much fun to read. I think it’s SK’s masterpiece and his storytelling is on a league all on its own. Every person I’ve convinced to read this has moved it to the top of their favorites. It’s absolutely brilliant!

i didn't except this book to have this much of romance but i'm glad, i couldn't care less about kennedy but i love time-travel and following this man during his five years in the past
and i'm a sucker for doomed romance

maybe we live in an alternate reality where a random dude save Trump twice from being assassinated

This was my first Stephen King book and the writing style did not disappoint, but damn… I picked a big one. The book was very long and the pace was very slow at points, which made it feel even longer. This was not always the case and then i was at the edge of my seat unable to stop reading. The book was very atmospheric and because it was on the longer side,  I really felt the vibe of that time period.

The ending was very bittersweet. I wanted to toss the book across the room, but also couldn’t stop reading. I love that they reunited again in the end 😭

Definitely a unique way to learn some history I was never taught about in school. I’ll soon find myself going down a rabbit hole (not that one!) to learn more. Cool concept with a lot of questions and mystery surrounding to keep me on the edge of my seat. Really made me think of what I would do if I found myself back in 1958, not knowing much about the era. Loved the bonus playlist and recipes at the end of the book to help you feel “part of the time/book”. 800+ pages is no quick read (for me, at least) but definitely worth the commitment!

Rating: 3.5/5 stars

Jake Epping is a high school teacher in Maine who learns he can go back in time and decides to attempt to stop the assassination of JFK.

I started this book many years ago (around when it came out) and never got back to it, so it was the latest in my “Project DNF” attempt to finish every book I’ve ever DNFed. I’ll start with the positives: it was entertaining and I am glad I finally got back to it. That said, I also found it WAY too long—over 800 pages/30 hours on audio for absolutely no reason.

My biggest problem, however, was that I really disliked the ending, and it made the length feel even more oppressive (who wants to read for that long and not even have a good payoff?) Overall, it felt like a very self-indulgent book…and while an author has every right to publish something self-indulgent, I strongly feel like edits could have been made so this book was *also* as good as the super intriguing premise promised it could be.

If you like historical fiction with a side of time travel/alternate history, you might like this one, but be prepared for a long and winding road.

CW: Murder/blood/violence/injury/death; suicide

To be honest if this wasn't written by Stephen King it would have been one of my rare DNFs.
But I kept going because hos books so often start slow building a base for the action, this was the first of his books I finished still thinking it was boring.
