"Chantez, chantez la Joie! O Muse de tristesse!
Je sais que vous souffrez au fond de votre coeur."

Faubert's collection of poetry, translated by Danielle Legros Georges, is a beautiful compilation of odes, sonnets, and lyrical poems about soldiers, the death of children, and mornings. I was pleased that this collection kept the poems in French with the English translations on the other side. That way, I could finally use and read aloud in French and regain some lost vocabulary and flow, while being able to read the English version and checking my comprehension.

Truly though, Faubert's poetry left me better understanding the magic of words, the ways in which translations matter, and how context is necessary amid so much art. Ultimately a beautiful compilation that the poetry-lover won't want to miss.
