I received an ARC copy as part of a Goodreads giveaway. When I signed up for the giveaway, I wasn't aware that this was a children's book, more or less, but I still found myself enjoying it. It would be a great book to read out looked with kids, and reminded me of Rohl Dahl books. The illustrations sprinkled throughout the book were reminiscent of Tim Burton movies, with their spindly characters and detailed scenes. And the main trio of young adventures, Archer, Oliver and Adelaide, reminded me a bit of the main characters of Harry Potter. I enjoyed it, and will share it with my future kids.

The illustrations in this book are just darling. They are half the charm.

The story, however, leaves much to wish for. While our sense of wonder is constantly being teased with what-ifs and will-theys?, in the end, all fantastical suggestions amount to a flop of an ending.

However, I am interested in reading the sequel, so that I can revel in more gorgeously soothing illustrations, and perhaps actually embark in a wondrous adventure this time.
