Read this for a YA Lit & Media class. I think the message of the story is good, but I felt the story itself was pretty lacking: it’s a dip into a pool of white feminism, the plot was incredibly repetitive, the romance was incredibly unnecessary, and I feel the story would be better suited for someone in the 10-13 year old age zone

Excellent, sweet and everything that would've make me insanely obsessed when I was a teenager. It would've made me want to start my own Moxie movement at school.

[3★] Pues me ha gustado bastante, a lo mejor lo que menos he disfrutado es que sea en época de instituto pero ha sido un libro entretendido con un buen toque sobre feminismo en este ambiente tan "genial" que es el bachillerato.

”It occurs to me that this is what it means to be a feminist. Not a humanist or an equalist or whatever. But a feminist. It’s not a bad word. After today it might be my favorite word. Because really all it is is girls supporting each other and wanting to be treated like human beings in a world that’s always finding ways to tell them they’re not.“

4.5 stars.

This was SO SO good! I mean oh my god! I can't remember the last time I loved a YA contemporary this much. But this book was just... SO FUCKING GOOD! The message in it is so SO important and I LOVED!!!! seeing women supporting women and fighting the patriarchy! I loved seeing Viv realizing that she needed to do something, I loved seing Claudia realizing that feminism is not a bad thing and admitting that she's glad for Moxie because it opened her eyes, I loved seeing Kiera stand up to her boyfriend because he thought her being objectified was a good thing because it made him popular, I loved seeing Lucy not back down from the fight eventhough her future was at risk, I loved how Emma surprised everyone by finally speaking up and putting the final nail in both Mitchell and the principal's coffins... I LOVED EVERY SINGLE THING!!!

(the tiny tiny thing that I had trouble with in the beginning that honestly seems so stupid to me right now is the writing and how I wasn't a fan of it because it felt very ya-ish but idc anymore and the 0.5 stars drop is because I wish we'd actually seen Mitchell, the principal and everyone who was involved suffer the consequences)

anyway, EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS!!!!

4 stelle!

This book is great for something that was written in 2017, and I guess I’m glad that it already feels dated.

Mathieu writes good and believable characters, the plot moves and there’s a great relatable humor throughout. Is it kind of a feminist 101 checklist obviously written by someone who isn’t a teenager? Sure, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. Are some characters, including the love interest, just there to demonstrate how different angles of feminism work? Yes, but I’m mostly glad they’re there.

All in all, a great fast read that entertains and inspires, and I can totally understand why the rights were snapped right up to make into a movie.

I buddy read this with Anna over at Readerandproud. I was very wary when starting this as ive been reading a lot of fantasy lately and ive been very picky with my contemporary. However I was pleasantly surprised. I was intrigued by the concept and the layout as I had seen the Zine pages when flicking through the book after I brought it. I loved the zines as I really think to were a big part of the book and worked well when pushing the story along. It also was great for showing us physical representation to what they looked like instead of trying to imagine in our heads. This book focusing on feminism which I loved and while reading it I felt that I was comparing what happened a lot to what school was like when I was at school. I felt that I could relate to somethings and not others.
I really liked the characters in this book. I felt that the majority them all had their own story and gave something to the book. Vivian, our main character, is definitley the kickstarter for moxie. I really liked that she listened to the girls around her and fought for what they wanted using Moxie. I don't know how she lived with hiding that big of a secret especially from her best friends. I loved her mum. shes the kind of mum that I feel that everyone wishes they had. I loved what she does for Vivian. Claudia I found a bit meh at the beginning however as the story progressed I felt that we saw her grow as a character and I really began to like her. I really liked Lucy and how she was really involved in the story however I did find her a bit pushy sometimes but I fell that was just her nature. The other girls in the story I really liked too, we got a bit more back story for some and not so much for others. I felt we could also see the Hierarchy that you get in schools with the jocks and cheerleaders down to the quiet, nerd ones who just want to get on with school.
I liked the love interest, seth. I felt that he really supported Vivian in her Moxie movement and believed her when she revealed the truth. I liked that he came from a different back ground then any other the characters. I did find him a bit iffy at times by how he did react to somethings that Vivian said of did, however for the majority of it I loved the romance.
I felt that we could have had a bit more to the ending however I was pleased with how the book finished and felt that they got what they deserved. I also like how we kind of the got a setting for a sequel though I don't think there is one.
I gave this book 5 stars as overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and it was a good time.
