Each one of these was a fascinating take on classic stories. Some of these could be considered "Modern" retellings, but not all of them.
But each is unique in its way and often causes you to think about these works in different lights than we typically do.

modernized retellings of grimms' fairy tales. majority of the retellings were too short to be impactful or too confusing to correlate to an original fairy tale but a couple were able to overcome the limitations (weft/soldiers of fortune/hell0 my name is). overall an underwhelming collection...

Grimm Tales from the Cave is a graphic novel anthology of stories inspired by the original Grimm Tales, more like a modern retelling. I seriously loved these! They are creepy and haunting like the original tales, and the art is just super, adds so much to the creepiness and the haunting vibes of the story. The art style is different, and perfectly fitting for every story. I could stare at the artwork forever, it's that gorgeous! This is something I'd want on my bookshelf!

Another take on Grimm Brothers' tales, still good to read. Some new stories I haven't read before. Medium on gory factor.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC! This was so freaking creepy and fulfilled my craving for a spooky retelling of Grimm's Fairytales. It was so gory at times and I even had chills running down my spine at some parts because of the creepy factor. I figured out most of the original stories the retellings were based on, but there were a couple that may not have been as well known. I loved the shift of the retellings to a modern day setting because I think the stories made a bigger impact on the reader since what happens in the plot could happen to anyone - minus the magical aspect though. The art styles were also really well done and really amped up the creepiness of this anthology. Overall, it was a great read!

This one I discovered from netgalley

I really like this comics anthologies they are so interesting, this specific one was pretty interesting with the theme, I really liked a lot if not all stories in it.

The illustrations all made every story so unique it was awesome, my favorites were
Hello my name is, Billi and his friend death, The Girl with dirty hands.

I did find a little on every story and the retelling were so awesome specially pay the piper and weft.

Totally recommended if you love to discover classics another darker way.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this anthology.

This anthology contains retellings of beloved fairytails with a modern spin without losing their gothic feel.

With all anthologies some stories resonate better than others. It all really depends on the reader. But they were all interesting and the illustrations, while varied in style, all fit their respective stories.

Lovers of gothic fairytale retellings will enjoy this book.

A graphic novel containing darker, gorier and modernised retellings of the classic Grimm Fairy tales, which themselves are quite gloomy to begin with. In some of the cases, I could make out the original story but not for all. And I enjoyed the former category better, where I could figure out how exactly the classic had been altered for the retelling.
This started with a bang but as it went ahead, the quality varied, as in most anthologies. All the stories are dark and creepy. Quite a few of the stories are mind-blowing. Here’s my brief spoiler-free feedback on each of the eleven stories:
1. Soldiers of Fortune – Based on ‘The Devil and His Grandmother’ – In a word, WOW! Loved it from the first panel to the last. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
2. Pay the Piper – Based on ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’ – Yet another awesome story. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
3. Hello My Name is -  Based on ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ – I didn’t like the graphics in this one but the story was good 🌟🌟🌟🌟
4. Mother’s Thorn – Based on ‘Mother Holle’ - I wish this were longer. It was beautifully written and sketched. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
5. Birds of a feather – Based on ‘Bluebeard’ I guess, not very sure. Found it decent. Nothing great, nothing bad. 🌟🌟🌟
6. Billie & her friend Death – Nice story. Loved the use of the virus and the pandemic in this one. A bit predictable. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
7. Little Deaths - This had potential but left a lot of loopholes at the end. Without any kind of background into the characters, the entire plot felt abrupt, right till the ending. I would have enjoyed it more had I know the who’s and the why’s. 🌟🌟🌟
8. The girl with dirty hands – I wish I knew the original tale for this one. It was so amazing! 🌟🌟🌟🌟. 🌠
9. No good deed - Well-written and well-sketched.  🌟🌟🌟🌟.🌠
10. Weft – Based on ‘Rapunzel’ – Was absolutely predictable but still I enjoyed it. Credit goes partly to the creepy illustrations. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
11. New Nightmares Sold Cheap – Didn’t like the story, didn’t like the graphics. 🌟

There is a lot of gore in the stories, possibly containing the same level of carnage and cruor as the Sandman comic series. If you are squeamish about blood and horror, better stay away.
Usually, one expects an entire book to have the same style of illustrations. But with there being multiple writers and illustrators for this anthology, there is no unifying graphical style. I did enjoy the sketches in most of the works. (The sole exceptions being “Hello My name is…” and “New Nightmares Sold Cheap”, they were too plain and hence felt bland against the rest of the book.)
Overall, I did enjoy the book to a great extent. It provides a novel take on the classic fairy tales. If you enjoy horrifying retellings, do give it a try.

3.75 stars, rounding up to 4.

Thank you, NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors, for the ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Grimm Tales from the Cave is a graphic novel comprised of several horror stories that are twists on modern fairy tales such as The Pied Piper, Rumplestiltskin & Rapunzel.

I picked up on the story origins/references with some quicker than others (probably because I'm an uncultured swine), but it was nice to see them slightly more modernised.

Each one had a brilliant art style & were gruesome in their own right, but the three stand out ones for me were Pay the Piper, Weft & Hello, My Name is. Not only were the art styles fantastic & grim, but the retellings themselves were out standing & extremely well done.

Overall, I found this an enjoyable & quick read.
