This book provoked me to read Jane Eyre, a classic of the sort which I normally wouldn't have considered. For me, this broadened my horizon a bit.

If you don't like Jane Eyer or The Woman in White, then this is really a waste of time.
The first 1/3 had been engaging and after that I felt obliged to finish it, but it was really painful since the author is too feminine and too sensitive to my taste. And there's almost not a single person with a normal personality in the book.

Dark and twisty. Actually had me guessing all throughout without me having it figured out for once.

Weird book, and not a very fast read. There is a lot of ambiguity throughout the whole book, which I suppose makes sense with the recurring theme of ghosts and all. I was also a little bummed that I was able to predict the plot twist that was supposedly going to blow my mind (sorry, Buzzfeed).

With that being said, I did think the book was well-written and enjoyed the writer's considerable vocabulary. I would be interested in reading Setterfield's other book.

The spooky gothic vibes were perfect for the dreary fallish weather we've been having
