I enjoyed this book but I didn't love this book. I really felt like it could have been shorter and I got really frustrated with the FMC trying to decide if Nyte was good or not. She really needed a solid girl friend to talk some sense into her.

“You ARE the answer, Starlight.”

I love a pretty book and wow is this one pretty. It’s got a great map, illustrations, chapter detailing…

The dedication is to: “You. The smallest voice can make the biggest change. You are the brightest star” and there’s a crown drawing.

There’s trigger warnings at the beginning of the book. “Please read with care. While not core themes, this book touches on subject matter as follows: domestic violence situations, emotional manipulation, grief and loss, explicit sexual scenes, fantasy violence and gore, suicidal ideation, overcoming addiction.”

“What’s one more mentor?”
"A mentor of what?"
"Delightful company."
"You're saying mine isn't?"
“Exactly.”

Least favorite character: Calix. I want my evil characters evil and my good characters good. A guy who pretends he’s a normal upstanding lover of a side character but is really just a douche? Get him out of my sight.

I love a tortured character, and Nyte definitely fits the bill. I also love a mind reader

"The Stars are Dying" von Chloe C. Peñaranda entführt uns in eine Welt voller Vampire, Geheimnisse und einer verbotenen Liebe. Astraea, eine junge Frau mit verlorenen Erinnerungen, trifft auf den geheimnisvollen Vampir Nyte, der sie mit seiner düsteren Präsenz und seiner Macht immer mehr in seinen Bann zieht. Der Roman verbindet düstere Magie, politische Intrigen und eine langsame, aber elektrisierende Romanze.
Die Welt ist komplex und atmosphärisch, doch das World-Building ist zu Beginn überwältigend und unübersichtlich. Besonders die Charaktere, vor allem Astraea, wirken zunächst passiv, was die Spannung etwas bremst. Nyte dagegen bleibt trotz seiner mysteriösen Art und kryptischen Aussagen ein faszinierender Charakter, dessen Entwicklung und die Chemie zwischen ihm und Astraea die besten Momente des Buches sind.
Die Idee hinter der Geschichte ist großartig, und der Roman steckt voller Potenzial – doch die Umsetzung zieht sich an manchen Stellen, und die Antworten auf die vielen Geheimnisse bleiben zu lange aus. Dennoch macht die explosive Spannung zwischen den Protagonisten neugierig auf Band 2!

Ein vielversprechender Start in eine düstere Romantasy-Welt mit einer packenden, aber langsamen Erzählweise. Für Fans von Star-Crossed Lovers und Forbidden Love ist „The Stars are Dying" ist definitiv einen Blick wert – trotz ein paar Schwächen, die die Geschichte ausbremsen.
