I loved The Whisper Man, so I decided to give The Shadows a go. While it wasn’t quite as fantastic (in my opinion), it was still really good. Paul is forced to face his past when a copycat killer recreates the murder of his friend and the suspicious Charlie Crabtree. As Crabtree was never seen again, no one knows what became of him. Paul’s mother calls him home with the concern something is in her house, so he is stuck playing investigator in more ways than one. Paul is smart, and he is determined to get answers. Follow along with this horror movie style tale as the town attempts to find the copycat killer. Beyond all else, you’ll find yourself wondering what happened to Charlie Crabtree

This review contains some spoilers.

So I don't want my low rate review to deter anyone from this book. I'm sure for some people, it's really tense and mysterious but for me, it was just... lacking.

At first I found it really difficult to get into. When I did get into it, I found certain characters (the Gritten police officer) really unrealistic. Paul had so many other avenues he could have taken when his door had prints on and the doll was put through his door. I don't understand why he didn't speak to Amanda?

His poor mother. I think she was probably my favourite character.

I loved the plot of the obsession  Charlie and Billy had with the dreams and such but I don't understand why Paul didn't talk about his involvement as I think it would have made them catch the killer so much earlier.

I'm a disappointed that I didn't love it. I have The Whisper Man on my tbr pile. Hopefully I enjoy that more.

The Shadows is delightfully creepy, with twists you won't see coming from a mile away, and a must read. 25 years ago Charlie Crabtree committed a gruesome murder before disappearing. Since he was never found, there's always been speculation he's still alive out there. Now, copycat killers have emerged, inspired by what Charlie did, thrusting the case back into the limelight. Then, strange things begin to happen to those who knew Charlie as a teenager. Has Charlie truly been in hiding all this time? If so, why choose now to make himself known again?
