Genre: High fantasy
Setting: South America
Characters: No one is white, few are straight, all are complex.
World-building: Well done, and without long exposition about it.
Bonus: Kick-ass warrior women! Sweet romantic subplots! Lots of Spanish mixed into conversation! Monsters and quests!
I'm kicking myself for starting to read a trilogy before it's fully published, because now I will pine incessantly for the next installment.

I liked this book. I think it was a solid sequel, and I'm excited to read the next book in this series.
I thought the characters were good, and I liked how Nova has grown and evolved. I liked the relationships and I'm curious to see how they develop. I think there's a good chance of a love triangle and I'm curious how Hernandez will write that. I'm always iffy on love triangles or love shapes. So far for this one, I don't have a big preference.
I struggled with the pacing. Overall, it was fine. I thought there were a lot of moments that were more of a "show" than a "tell." But for those moments to be "shown" would have changed the pacing and made the book longer. The writing style kept me interested and engaged. I love the bits of Spanish throughout, and I loved the glossary in the back. The plot was cute. I liked that there were two separate yet connected plots between "now" and "then."

This was a lot more heavy handed than the first book. More world descriptions this time around in addition to other POV’s besides Nova/Nessa. I feel like because this felt so bogged down - I didn’t appreciate the mini plot twist that happens. This is a book you can’t take long breaks from otherwise you’ll forget a lot quickly. I’m hoping the third book is less pages and not feel as dense.
Moderate: Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Death, Blood, and Violence

The adventure continues with book 2 of the Flowers of Prophecy series, The Follower of Flowers. In this book, we are given 3 POVs which 1 is a new character that we are being introduced to during the book. Even though, this is not a character we know, Natalia’s writing allows for the story to be weaved into the other POVs without causing confusion. This book continues to be filled with adventure, magic, and friendships. The portrayal of friendships and the loyalty that comes when friends become family has been my favorite thus far! Natalia’s writing has made it to that these friendships become part of the reader. So much, so that the last 10 chapters of this book had me on an emotional roller coaster! So many happy moments, yet we just had to have devastating moments😭 I had to remember that this journey to fulfill the prophecy is dangerous for any involved.
So many favorite quotes, but these are from some of my favorite scenes:
🌸 “You’re her, aren’t you? You’re the Name-Bearer.”
🌸 “Its only because they poison your mind against men at the Temple..”
🌸 “I’ve never been enough for either side.”
🌸 It’s what best friends do.”
💐A huge thank you to @nataliahernadezauthor for sending me this E-ARC, it in no way influences my review. The Follower of Flowers will be out on June 27, 2023, so preorder NOW!
Moderate: Panic attacks/disorders, Violence, and Death
