I liked this book. I think it was a solid sequel, and I'm excited to read the next book in this series.

I thought the characters were good, and I liked how Nova has grown and evolved. I liked the relationships and I'm curious to see how they develop. I think there's a good chance of a love triangle and I'm curious how Hernandez will write that. I'm always iffy on love triangles or love shapes. So far for this one, I don't have a big preference.

I struggled with the pacing. Overall, it was fine. I thought there were a lot of moments that were more of a "show" than a "tell." But for those moments to be "shown" would have changed the pacing and made the book longer. The writing style kept me interested and engaged. I love the bits of Spanish throughout, and I loved the glossary in the back. The plot was cute. I liked that there were two separate yet connected plots between "now" and "then."

Our intrepid trio continues on to try to find the Unnamed Prince, gaining unlikely allies on the way, and overcoming new obstacles. Old friends are met, and new enemies are encountered and I liked this very much.
This series just feels like a delightfully light fantasy series, I can shut off my brain and just enjoy the book. It almost reminds me of listening to someone tell me a story.
We get to see a bit of romance in this, I won't spoil anything, but it was very sweet and I liked the inclusion of it.
This book was a delightful palate cleanser that got me out of a funk, and for that I am so grateful.
If you are looking for shorter diverse fantasy books to read, give this one a go!
I very much love this cover as well, it's very soft and I like the symbolism.
